Students Starting School
In New Zealand children are required by law to have started school/kura by their 6th birthday and not before their 5th birthday. Most children start their schooling on or just after their 5th birthday, but it is not compulsory to start school in NZ until you turn 6.
At Mt Albert Primary School and most other primary schools, students start school on or soon after their 5th birthday.
We appreciate parents enrolling their child at least 6 months prior to their child's 5th birthday so that we can invite you to attend three pre-visits.
Year Level Classification - Children who turn 5 between 01 January and 29 April each year will be classified as Year 1. Children who turn 5 after 29 April will be classified as Year 0.
In Zone Enrolment
You have automatic right of enrolment at Mt Albert Primary if you live in our zone.
This link will assist you in determining if you are in our school zone.
If you live in the zone, we have an online enrolment form for all our enrolments.
You can complete your enrolment application online here. (All you need is the school code 1381) and a valid email address. Once you've completed the online enrolment form, our office staff will get in touch in order to organise a visit to the school and a meeting with the Principal.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact the school office on 09 8469288 or email reception@maps.school.nz. Giving the school as much notice as possible of any new enrolments enables us to ensure we are well prepared for new students arriving at the school.
For those whānau without internet access we will have devices at the school office that you can complete the enrolment in person. If you are using this on-site option you will need to bring all the supporting documentation in with you and we will take copies of them for you.
The process will take approximately 30-45 minutes.
Please have the following documentation ready before you start your child's online enrolment. We suggest you either scan the documents or take clear photos on your phone and attach them when asked as part of the online enrolment process.

Proof of residential address (tenancy agreement or similar) for in-zone students
